About the Event
Thalia Leaf, the associate editor of US history imprint Calkins Creek, will introduce you to writing history picture books for today's readers and today's market. The talk will cover selecting a topic, doing research, and crafting a narrative. Thalia Leaf (she/her) is the associate editor at Calkins Creek. A former English teacher and academic history editor, she’s drawn to innovative manuscripts that surprise her and teach her something new—a new twist on a story or a figure she thought she knew is always welcome. She values rigorous historical research, creative storytelling, and unforgettable characters, whether real or fictional. She’s looking to acquire innovative picture books, long nonfiction, graphic novels and nonfiction, and young adult historical fiction. You can reach her at tleaf@astrapublishinghouse.com.
