About the Event
In this lively session, picture book author, Brian Gehrlein will show you how to break the rules of storytelling to create comedy that catches readers off guard—in the best way. Learn how to play with patterns, disrupt expectations, and bring a sense of surprise to every page. Brian Gehrlein is the author of THE BOOK OF RULES illustrated by Tom Knight (FSG, 2021), THIS IS NOT A SLEEPY BEAR BOOK illustrated by Jenn Harney (Little, Brown, November 11, 2025), and another (all about wolves!) published by Dial. Brian and his wife, Katherine, live in Liberty, Missouri with their sons Peter and Albee. When he isn’t writing picture books, Brian can be found drinking coffee or chasing his two boys and their corgis around the house.
